Please excuses me for standing on my soapbox, but what’s it going to be “Washington’s Birthday? or Presidents’ Day!” This whole thing about celebrating a person’s birthday, on a different date, because it’s convenient is a little absurd, if you ask me. Yeah, I get the three day weekend and all that, but come on…I’m not going to celebrate my birthday on a
Monday or a Friday just because it makes it convenient for everyone else. And, yes, I think people deserve a day off from work for the holiday, but then let’s just call that what it is: A Holiday Weekend!
Maybe I am missing something here? Let’s take Washington’s Birthday, February 22, 1732 for an example. His birthday: “is never celebrated on Washington’s actual birthday”, which just doesn’t seem right to me, for some reason. I think that honoring George Washington: Who “is often referred to as ‘the father of his country’.” and should have a date bestowed to him. But so should each of the great men whom have led America (See List). These are my previous posts from today’s holiday Presidents Day! and Presidents’ Day (apostrophe correction made today).

And this kind of indecision with the holiday’s name reminds me of the political disagreement about health care for the citizens of our country. The thought here being: If you can’t even get the name of a holiday straight, how are you ever going to agree on a health care bill? That about sums up what I’ve got to say about this holiday, and I want to wish you all a Happy Washington’s Birthday? Or a Happy Presidents Day, or a Happy Presidents’ Day, or however you spell it, or whatever you call this holiday, we are celebrating today!

Thanks for Listening,
Jeff

I saw this tweet on Twitter today from USAgov: “Happy President\’s Day! Learn about the Presidents of the U.S.A. throughout history at http://go.usa.gov/lDO”https://twitter.com/USAgov/status/9149685226And now I’m wondering if I got the apostrophe in the wrong place?
Well read with a little annoyance – mine, not yours. We do have a B.C. holiday long weekend in February. There is no national holiday for the Prime Ministers present and past.Given our assessments of Canadian Prime Ministers I think understand why no one proposing such a holiday. LOL
