To everyone that is celebrating this Christian holiday I’d like to say, “Happy Mardi Gras!” This is from my entry last year: “Today is Mardi Gras which is French for Fat Tuesday or around here we say, ‘Happy Pączki Day!’ Shrove Tuesday: ‘for the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of the Christian season of fasting and prayer called Lent.’” Whenever I’ve got a question about a religious holiday or any other questions on my mind, I like to use Bible Questions Answered, to help me find the information that I’m looking for, like today’s question: “What is the origin of Fat Tuesday / Mardi Gras?” I also watched a few
videos on the History Channel about Mardi Gras to try and get some information about the holiday.
Here is what I wrote two years ago about this holiday: “I should be talking about the Biblical significance of today: “Dusting oneself with ashes was the penitent’s way of expressing sorrow for sins and faults.” The Lord knows that I repent today for my many sins and faults I have done against Him and others. I pray for God’s forgiveness today of these many sins and wrongs that I’ve done. I am hopeful and faithful in believing in God’s best for my life in the future!“
Writing about Mardi Gras is a very difficult subject for me, because although I am a Christian, I am not of the Catholic faith, but like Joel Osteen said last Sunday in his message we don’t need to put labels on our religion. And I agree with that
idea because we are either good or we are evil, there is no need for other labels.
Thanks for Listening,
Jeff
